Jet2.com has once again testified to the growth potential in Turkish tourism, in particular to Bodrum, which is rapidly becoming a top tourist destination within the country. At the same time Jet2.com confirmed its commitment to Newcastle airport and to the north east of England as a whole, with several new routes including Bodrum, and also with the announcement of a new plane to be based at Newcastle.
Recent data for Turkish airports showed 30% year on year growth in traffic through Bodrum airport, and also showed that a remarkably high proportion of that growth was from international traffic.
Jet2 also announced new flights to Rome, Reus and Venice, with all starting from May 31st. Prices are to start from £34.99 one-way and with taxes included.
Budget airline Jet2 is forging a leading role in travel to emerging destinations like Turkey and Egypt, having launched several new routes and route expansions in these areas over the last year and a half. Of course this is far from being a high risk strategy.
According to the British Association for Travel Agents, travel to Turkey from Britain is growing far faster than top destination Spain, which peaked several years ago and is now losing out to the likes of Turkey. And Britain isn't even the main market, about 3000 Germans currently holiday in Turkey, with Brits currently catching up with 2000.
